In honor of Father's Day and wedding season, I wanted to share a piece of my heart with you all in hopes that it will touch others who have suffered the loss of their father or loved one. A few weeks after losing my dad, I had a sleepless night looking through pictures, reliving memories and pondering on what the future would hold without my hero in my life. I had just gotten engaged and my wedding was less than a year away and I begin the think what my wedding day would be like without my dad there and how I would not have the honor of sharing a dance with him. I just spoke aloud, "Well Dado, you will just have to save a dance for me for when we meet again."
I got out my journal like I always do when I need to process my emotions and turned on my voice recorder to capture whatever lyrics and melody came to me. In the early morning hours of that next day, "Daddy Save A Dance for Me" was written. Whitney made this amazing video to be played at my wedding and has since added some footage of that special day.
Since then, Whitney and I have had the privilege of singing this song to many people and many tears have been shed both by the audience and myself. I have also recently had the honor of singing this song at a friend's wedding who had just lost her father as well. This song was written out of the depths of my hurt and grief but if this song helps one person going through pain after losing their loved one or gives a bride hope on her wedding day or encourages someone to find out more about why we have the hope we have, then the pain was worth it. I hope this Father's Day you appreciate and show love to the fathers that are still living and honor the fathers who are no longer with us.
To my Dado, thank you for the godly inheritance you've left us and thank you for fiercely loving your kids and being an example of what a man and father should be. Until we meet again, save a dance for me.
